Volunteering at the farm
REGISTER YOUR INTEREST IN VOLUNTEERING:
Volunteering is a huge part of FCF. We need extra hands to keep growing quality veg with as little soil disturbance as possible - we rarely use machinery, but it means lots of hard work! Volunteers value the opportunity to be outdoors, socialise and learn new skills with us. We are open to individuals, school groups, work experience and supported adults - please use the sign-up form to tell us a bit more about you and what you’re looking for.
Volunteering is free, but if you’d like to support the farm alongside we also welcome Supporter Members. Supporter Members pay £2 a month to help ensure the future of the farm, and we’ll keep you updated with news, opportunities and events. If you’d like to join as a Supporter Member, please go to the veg bag sign-up page and choose the £2 option.
OPENING HOURS AND ACTIVITIES
Spring through to Autumn: Monday-Thursday, 9am-4pm
Winter: Varies, sign up to weekly newsletter
Weekend volunteering: We have a Social Saturday once a month. We’ll have lunch to share, usually celebrating a seasonal veg, and often we’ll focus the day around a certain job like skinning a polytunnel or building a compost bay.
There's always a range of tasks on offer to suit all abilities, and volunteers can stay all day or just for an hour, it’s all helpful. Activities include seed sowing, soil preparation, infrastructure building, bagging up veg and harvesting. Some of our volunteers bring their children to help them connect with nature and learn where their food comes from. We are hugely appreciative of our volunteers and couldn't do it without them!
events
We hold regular social and fundraising events for our members and for the public, such as the Sustainability Festival in Gostrey Meadow. If you enjoy talking to the public, you're passionate about the local food movement or you have skills and experience organising events, then we would love to hear from you!
